Summit Lake Residence
Olympia, Washington
The couple wanted an exciting contemporary house to be used for entertaining-and one that would be remembered by guests for its uniqueness.    They requested separating the entry level foyer, living, kitchen and guest area from the upper bedroom suite and the lower level game and audio-visual entertainment area.  They also wanted angles, curves, level changes, feature lighting, glass block and tall spaces.    The compact site fronting on crystal clear Summit Lake had a basalt rock outcropping that was partially removed.   A new boathouse and dock were also built as part of the project and a drying off-changing area was located on the lower level.  During the schematic design, a circular stair tower was located to tie the three  floors together plus an added roof patio.  Also a bridge overlooking the 2-story living and foyer  connected the master suite to the stair tower.  A  curved wedge-shaped patio deck extended from each floor with external spiral stair connection.  A secondary stair connected  the master to the laundry & kitchen hall and 3-car garage.  The building is wood framed with EIFS cladding.
